Mitered square blanket

Here's a photo of my mitered square blanket. It took me almost three months to the day to complete (working on it every day and not knitting anything else). I used about 20 colors of Tahki Cotton Classic on a size 7 Addi Turbo flex needle. I enjoyed every stage of this project--from choosing the color palette, knitting seemingly endless stockinette squares, and even mattress-stitching everything together. I used scraps of leftover skeins to do the seed stitch border (my favorite part of the blanket).
Even though it's a large project, I would encourage folks not to be daunted by the scale of it--if you're tired of knitting squares (the pattern calls for 80 of them) you can seam several of them together and make pillows. Or sew up individual squares and make sachets.
Happy knitting!
Stephanie

Oh my god Stephanie that is totally wonderful, in all the bright colours I love. Congratulations, it was worth the work!!!! I've done mitred baby blankies, but haven't ventured into adult size yet (and since I don't have kids, I need to do that). I find the mitres great for whenever projects, it can be a long term 'tween tough stuff thing.
That is so birght and beautiful. I like the thick and thin square combinations. It's fun to look at.
Your blanket is absolutely beautiful! You should be very happy and proud of your accomplishment. Thanks for sharing it with us!
wow, this really is my favorite one, yet. so gorgeous. i love the colors and the seam. congrats on finishing.
THAT IS PHENOMENAL! OMG!!! The colors are wonderful, and I love the thin stripes mixed with the thick ones. It's just fantastic. Excellent work! That is the loveliest blanket I've seen in a long while.
Love love love it! Totally worth the time and effort. I love how you used the scraps for the border too.
Love, Love, Love your mitred blanket. The purples and greens are fantastic! And the finishing looks great. Good job!!!
I have got to have one. This is a piece of art! You should be soooo proud! As soon as my Christmas knitting is done, I'm making one.
Really lovely. I'm particularly jazzed by the varied width of the miter stripes. Nice touch.
I'm on square seventy something. Almost there!

Oh, I love it! Especially the squares with very thick stripes. The black looks really great to set off the other colors, I was leery of black in our not-yet-sewn mitered afghan. SO INSPIRING!
This absolutely MAKES MY DAY. Thank you for posting this. The way you displayed it is so nice and it is, as everyone else has said, gorgeous. I wish I could see a close-up of the border. (?) Beautiful, beautiful job. Where will it go?
Everybody,
Thanks so much for your nice comments--it's not often that I feel so proud of a knitting accomplishment.
Someone made a comment about using black--the darkest stripes are actually navy blue. I made a conscious decision not to use black--I wanted to to figure out color relationships and black goes with everything!
The border is my favorite part of the blanket. I used seed stitch, rather than garter stitch, because I like the texture better. There were lots of skein remnants after knitting all the squares. Using stripes with a varying number of rows was one last chance to play with color.
I don't know what I'm going to do with the blanket now. If I put it on the bed, my two kitties will instantly claim it as theirs and I'm not ready to give it to them yet!

This is truly a work of art! You have such a great eye for color and design layout! Congratulations on finishing it!
OMG.....I can't stop looking at your amazing technicolor dream blankie....it is sooooo beeutiful!
Congrats on an amazing creation.

Hot DAMN girl that blanket is gorgeous. I love the way the colors pop --brights against deeps. And I love those thicker stripe patterns making cool shapes that seem to float on top of the other squares and .... I just love it. Congrats!! xox Kay
That blanket is HAWT! I love it so much and I'm so psyched that you posted it here! And all that stockinette--who knew?
It looks great--you should be proud!

You are a genius! Your color choices are genius. Your ability to do seed stitch all around the beautiful blanket is amazing. The whole think just knocked my socks off and left me breathless. I even had my husband look at it. He thought it was beautiful, too! Very, very nice work, Stephanie!!

That turned out SUPER!!! Wow, Wow, Wow.... ok I am at a loss for words - and anyone who knows me knows that doesn't happen often.
Now I know what my knitting group can do for our fund raiser! Your work is incredible and inspirational. We had best start miter-ing.
Your blanket is so inspiring. I've been working on a log cabin for a little while. After seeing your mitered squares, I've been thinking about starting some squares of my own. It'll hopefully be my next blanket. Wonderful job, and great colors.
Stephanie,
Can you point me towards a pattern for this totally gorgeous mitered blanket? Number of stitches to start each square, decrease rate, appropriate size/type of yarn, and sewing-together tips would probably do. A bunch of friends are considering making this for a charity auction item. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
