need help on mitered square

HELP!! I have finished (almost) a mitered square for the project. I finished the pattern - row 47 S1, k2tog, psso...then it says fasten off remaining stitch....yet I have 3 stitches left.... I went back and redid everything from row 43 and I don't know what to do. And I have this loopy thing on the back from S1 (I'm guessing).
Other than that, it looks great. I am very proud of myself. I'll post a picture later.
Thanks.

hmmmm... wish i knew how to help you! i started on this project too. i've finished 19 squares so far and everything is working out fine by following the pattern as written. seems like maybe you missed a couple of decreases somewhere and your stitch count is now off. might be best to rip back to the beginning and start over.

You should have three stitches when you get to the last row. For the last row, you slip the first stitch, then knit the second and third stitches together. You then slip the first stitch over the 2 stitches you just knit together, so you now only have one stitch left.

renee is correct. When there is only one stitch left, cut the yarn, leaving a small tail perhaps 3 or 4 inches long. Pull the tail end through the last stitch as you take it off the needle (the last stitch will look like a loop.) Then weave in all the ends of yarn and lightly block the square (instructions in the MDK book). Try renee's suggestion before ripping. You're almost there!

thanks for your help.
